Commission process and fees

After four long years focusing on school, I’m so excited to be able to offer commissioned portraits, pet portraits, and custom paintings again. The process of commissioning a portrait or custom painting with me is very straight forward, and includes a free personal consultation. Communication is key for us to find a way of creating a family heirloom that will be cherished for generations. The portrait created will be a shared vision between you, the subject being painted, and my artistic interpretation. I consider my subjects and clients to be full partners in the creation process. My paintings are created using strictly professional grade artist pigments, on archival papers, board or linen to ensure the longevity of the painting.

While my practice started with painting children, I now enjoy painting a variety of ages and ethnicities, and I’ve even started to explore pet portraiture! I specialize in casual affordable portraits because I believe everyone should have the opportunity to have the unique experience of being seen, heard, and reflected back in an compassionate artistic manner. I’ve had many people express they felt validated and empowered through the process of being painted.

The following tables are meant to give you an idea of the costs involved with commissioning a portrait from me. Please keep in mind that each commission is customized for your personal needs and may not always fall within this structure. Before I start working on your painting I will make sure our agreement and time table is in writing to ensure your satisfaction. If you would like a more than one person in the portrait painting or a group portrait painting, please contact me for pricing. In general a second person (or pet) will cost an additional 50%, and each addition person after that an 25%.

There is a 50% non-refundable deposit due after our initial consultation. The remainder is due upon approval of the painting, prior to delivery. In general, small oil portraits will take anywhere from 4-6 weeks to complete and need 6-8 weeks to dry. If you are providing me with your own photos for reference, I will need a copyright release from the photographer. All prices listed are in US dollars.

Small casual portraits or custom paintings

• Small casual portraits or custom paintings: full color paintings are painted on hardboard, or choice of canvas or linen mounted on hardboard. Sketches and duotones are painted on media specific paper.
• Free 30 minute consultation
• Single head and shoulder portrait with a simple background, working from customer high resolution photographs.
• Minimum $350.
• Minimum for a small portrait or custom painting painted from life is $500 and includes a 2-hour sitting.
• Free US shipping. International shipping 15% of painting cost plus duty tax.
• For live sittings, artist travel within the Portland, Oregon TriMet area included.

Medium corporate full color oil portraits or custom paintings

• Medium portraits and custom painting are painted on hardboard or stretched canvas/linen
• free 30-minute consultation
• 3-hour sitting (these can be broken up into two different sittings) or a photoshoot
• single head and shoulders to half-length portrait including hands if desired
• More detailed environment/background.
• Free shipping to US. International shipping 12% of painting cost plus duty tax.
• Artist travel within the Portland, Oregon TriMet area included. Artist travel expenses to outside Portland TriMet will be added to price.

Examples of medium or corporate oil portraits

Large legacy full color oil portraits or custom paintings

• Large portraits and custom painting are painted on hardboard or stretched canvas/linen
• free one hour consultation
• 3-hour sitting (these can be broken up into two different sittings) and a photoshoot
• Single half-length portrait to three quarter portrait including hands if desired
• Specific detailed environment/background.
• Free shipping to US. International shipping 10% of painting cost plus duty tax.
• Artist travel costs will be added to price.
