Inner Child, gestural colorful sitting nude with long red hair
Pastel on Paper 18 inches x 24 inches Available
$300.00 USD
Painted during my Advanced Life Drawing class at OCAC, this model brought out my inner child. I abandoned strict observation and let it mingle with my imagination. Like a child with bright crayons I filled in the scene as quickly as I could with gestural mark making alternating between my dominant and non-dominant hand.
I could tell my model had a mastectomy, even though she she tried to hide it shyly, despite being brave enough to take off her clothes in front of a class of art-students. The strange combination bravery and shyness called to the little girl in me to come out and play. I don’t just draw and paint nudes for exercise. My interest in the human body had a lot to do with my own discomfort being in my own skin. I never liked my body—not as a child, not any time I can remember. But my adventures in my many life drawing classes really helped me work on my own body shame. The models became my sisters inviting me to come play, naked and unashamed.
This painting was created with all profession materials to ensure longevity for generations. It is available for a limited time through my Epic Studio Sale. Shipping is free anywhere in the US.
